In later years, I took my children to the beach and made lasting memories of days spent playing in the sand and the water.\u00a0 Even now, thinking back on these carefree days, I can feel the sun on my face, smell the saltiness of the sea, hear the gulls calling out above me. Though the tide changes and seasons come and go, this vision of days spent at the seashore are a place that I return to in my memories time and time again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-verse has-text-align-center has-black-color has-pale-cyan-blue-background-color has-text-color has-background\">\n\n<strong>Carefree Days<\/strong>\r\nBy Krista Longeway\r\n\r\nI walk the shore on a warm summer day,\r\nSearching for small shells washed in by the sea.\r\nMy face is warmed by the sun\u2019s cheerful rays,\r\nBare feet sink into the sand beneath me.\r\n\r\nI stand by the water, out of tide\u2019s reach,\r\nAnd watch water swell, then roll to the shore.\r\nThe waves gently washing over the beach,\r\nSmooth sand now where there were footprints before.\r\n\r\nA cooling breeze blows in off the water,\r\nAir thick with the salty smell of the sea.\r\nIt carries the sound of children\u2019s laughter,\r\nAnd playfully blows the leaves on the tree.\r\n\r\nAbove, distant voices of gulls call out,\r\nAs they glide through the air on outstretched wings.\r\nIn a cloudless sky, they circle about,\r\nLazily searching the tide\u2019s offerings.\r\n\r\nThough the tide changes and seasons have past, \r\nGulls scatter and sandcastles melt in rain,\r\nThis memory of carefree days will last,\r\nAnd I come back here again and again.\r\n\r\n<\/pre>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I remember walking along the seashore as a child, collecting shells in a bucket, like tiny treasures washed in by the sea.
