Every fall I hold my breath and wait for this one moment\u2026 the moment when Autumn arrives in all her glory and I can have that one beautiful day of colorful fall foliage and sunshine. So far in my life, I have had a few of these days, but they are very rare.\u00a0 For oftentimes the wind or frost steal the leaves away before the trees have had the chance to put on a perfect show on a sunny day. But still every year I wait and hope that this will be the time that I finally go on a walk or drive where I can fully appreciate the beauty of fall.\u00a0 I have this hope that one of these days I will capture it in a photo. This year I have gone on some nice autumn walks but have been unable to take a photo that matches the beauty of the fall leaves as they drift in the wind and softly fall to the ground.\u00a0 This is the picture that I see in my mind when I think of Autumn\u2026a memory from a fall day long ago that I have yet to reexperience. So, this year, instead of taking a photo, I wrote a poem to capture the beauty of Autumn\u2019s last dance on a sunny fall day\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Autumn\u2019s Last Dance<\/strong>\r\nBy Krista Longeway\r\n\r\nThe wind tells an old tale\r\nOf Autumn\u2019s final days\r\nDressed in crimson and gold \r\nAutumn dances and plays\r\nJust one last gentle kiss \r\nFrom Summer\u2019s cheerful rays\r\n\r\nThen Summer\u2019s warmth gives way \r\nTo the beauty of fall\r\nWe watch the trees get dressed \r\nFor Autumn\u2019s final ball\r\nOne last graceful dance will \r\nBring an end to it all\r\n\r\nFor now the fateful time \r\nIs drawing swiftly nigh\r\nAbove we hear the trees \r\nBegin to softly sigh\r\nThe moment has arrived\r\nTo say their last good-bye\r\n\r\nThe trees sway in the wind \r\nTheir music\u2019s in the air\r\nLeaves twirl and dance along \r\nScattering here and there\r\nUntil each trembling tree \r\nStands very nearly bare\r\n\r\nAnd then beneath her feet \r\nThe leaves peacefully lay\r\nNow sleeping quietly\r\nAt the end of the day\r\nTo wait so patiently \r\nFor Winter\u2019s new display\r\n\r\n<\/pre>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
