{"id":548,"date":"2021-12-18T10:25:09","date_gmt":"2021-12-18T10:25:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/krista.longeway.ca\/?p=548"},"modified":"2022-01-15T14:29:37","modified_gmt":"2022-01-15T14:29:37","slug":"the-christmas-story","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/krista.longeway.ca\/?p=548","title":{"rendered":"The Christmas Story"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"573\" src=\"https:\/\/krista.longeway.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Glory-to-God-e1639822809189-1024x573.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-547\" srcset=\"https:\/\/krista.longeway.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Glory-to-God-e1639822809189-1024x573.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/krista.longeway.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Glory-to-God-e1639822809189-980x551.jpg 980w, https:\/\/krista.longeway.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Glory-to-God-e1639822809189-480x270.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1024px, 100vw\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">When my children were little, we had an advent calendar.\u00a0 Like most advent calendars, you could hide treats in the pockets \u2013 one for each day in the month of December.\u00a0 However, our advent calendar was a little different than most.\u00a0 In the pockets I also hid little slips of paper \u2013 each note telling one small piece of the Christmas story.\u00a0 The first note started with the prophesy of Jesus\u2019 birth.\u00a0 Then, the angel\u2019s visit to Mary.\u00a0 The next was Joseph\u2019s dream.\u00a0 Then Mary\u2019s visit with Elizabeth.\u00a0 And so the story continued, one tiny piece at a time until we reached the host of angels announcing Jesus\u2019 birth, the shepherds and the wise men from the east.\u00a0 Each tiny slip of paper described a different event and the individuals who each had a role to play in the Christmas story.\u00a0 This leads me to wonder, what is our role in Jesus\u2019 story?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-verse has-black-color has-text-color\"><strong>Precious Gifts<\/strong>\r\n\rBy Krista Longeway\n\nI now tell a cherished story\r\nOf the first Christmas long ago\r\nIt took place in a distant land\r\nYet it\u2019s a story we all know\r\n\r\nIt started with a prophesy\r\nTelling us of a coming king\r\nDescending from King David\u2019s line\r\nAnd the salvation he will bring\r\n\r\nFirst the angel came to Mary\r\nTo say a child was on the way\r\nThen Joseph had a wondrous dream\r\nThat helped to take his fears away\r\n\r\nMary went to see Elizabeth\r\nAnd on the Christmas story goes \r\nUntil the time to take the trip\r\nTo far off Bethlehem arose\r\n\r\nAfter a journey long and hard\r\nThe pair arrived in Bethlehem\r\nThey searched for a good place to rest\r\nBut the inn had no room for them\r\n\r\nSoon the glorious moment came\r\nWhen our Lord Jesus Christ was born\r\nHe laid in a humble manger\r\nUpon that blessed Christmas morn\r\n\r\nAbove, the angels in the sky\r\nSang to announce the baby\u2019s birth\r\nThey sang a song of the most high\r\nGlory to God and peace on earth\r\n\r\nThe shepherds heard them in the fields\r\nThey all trembled and were afraid\r\nBut the angels reassured them\r\nAnd told them where the babe was laid\r\n\r\nThe shepherds ran to Bethlehem\r\nThe stars above their only guide\r\nFound Jesus in a manger bed\r\nJoseph and Mary by his side\r\n\r\nThe shepherds helped to spread the word\r\nOf the things that had come to pass\r\nRejoicing as they travelled home\r\nThey told a story that would last\r\n\r\nThe message was a true treasure\r\nHeld closely within Mary\u2019s heart\r\nBut she could not yet understand\r\nThat these events were just the start\r\n\r\nWise men from far off eastern lands\r\nBrought precious gifts to the young king\r\nWhen in praise I lift up my hands\r\nWhat special gifts can I now bring?\r\n\r\n<\/pre>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When my children were little, we had an advent calendar.\u00a0 Like most advent calendars, you could hide treats in the pockets \u2013 one for each day in the month of December.\u00a0 However, our advent calendar was a little different than most.\u00a0 In the pockets I also hid little slips of paper \u2013 each note telling [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_et_pb_use_builder":"off","_et_pb_old_content":"","_et_gb_content_width":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[9,1,8],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-548","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-faith","category-uncategorized","category-winter"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.4 -
