At Water’s Edge

There is something powerful about the seashore.  Perhaps it is the overwhelming size of the sea and the way it seems to have a life of its own. Perhaps it is the quiet hush of the waves, the rhythm that is the heartbeat of the sea.  Perhaps it is the way that the salty air feels on your face as the cool breezes blow.  I feel these things like a living presence and I am struck by the comparative insignificance of my life and its problems.  There is a peace that comes from being at the ocean’s shore that is like no other.  It chases my cares away and helps me to put things in perspective.  It allows me, for a time, to put aside my worries and simply exist in that single moment without any thoughts beyond what is occurring right now.

Many times, I am struck by the feeling that it is a gift to live by the sea. Yet I know that there are many beautiful places in the world.  I have lived in the prairies, traveled through the mountains, seen beautiful rivers and lakes and waterfalls. In each of these places, I have seen overwhelming beauty there too.  I wonder, what are the places in nature that inspire you? I would love to read your comments.

At Water’s Edge
By Krista Longeway

It is a sunny summer afternoon
On a quiet beach by the sea
I stand silently at water’s edge
And watch as waves wash over my toes
Feet slowly sinking into the sand
The rhythm of the sea singing softly
My worries lost in the wind and waves
A deep sense of peace settles over me
A calm that defies explanation
Nothings matters beyond this moment
All cares seem suddenly lost at sea
Yet I am still standing
At water’s edge
