Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

Change is an inevitable part of our existence here on earth.  Day by day, moment by moment, nothing stays the same.  As the earth travels around the sun, seasons come and go.  Time passes from day to night and back again. The sun casts shadows that form and shift with the passing of the sun on its journey across the sky.  Weather changes from moment to moment, sometimes sunny, sometimes stormy. In their own time, new life forms, grows, then passes on in a never-ending cycle of life and death. Yet throughout all this change, God remains the same.  God is steady and unchanging in his love, providing good and perfect gifts in our lives.  God’s love is the greatest of these gifts. For we are loved unconditionally, regardless of what is going on around us and what changes may occur. 

                         
 Like Shifting Shadows

My God, you are the Father of heavenly lights,
At your command, the sun rules the day from on high,
While the distant moon and stars light up the dark nights.
Each one making the long journey across the sky.

And so every day with the passing of the sun,
Shadows form on earth below then move on again.
From morning’s gentle light until the day is done,
Nothing here on the earth ever remains the same.

Each season changes with the turning of the earth,
Weather changes from bright sun to cold storms and rain.
For all things there is a time of death and new birth,
New plants form and grow then fall to the ground again.

While all these earthly things change like shifting shadows,
My God is steady and unchanging in his love. 
And there’s one thing for certain that I always know,
All good and perfect gifts come from our God above.
