Matthew 5:14-16

You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

We only need to turn on the news to discover that there is much darkness in the world.  The world is wide and at times we may feel small in comparison.  Without God, this darkness can seem overwhelming.  Yet we are called upon to be the light in all this darkness.  Our kind words and good deeds have the power to bring light to others when they are in a dark place, and when the world sees the spark of goodness in us, they see evidence of the Lord at work. We don’t always see the many ways that our actions impact others, yet we can trust that the Lord will act through us to bring light and hope to this fallen world. The world needs you.  You are the light of the world.

Be the light that shines through the dark
Let your light be that little spark
That brings joy to those around you
Let God’s light shine through in all you do
Though the world is wide and you are small
Your words and deeds shine through it all
So lift your hands to God in praise 
And be the light now and always
