For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him…
Sometimes the burdens of my past lay heavy upon my heart. I think of past mistakes or heartbreaks and am weighed down as I dwell upon how I could have done things differently. It is easy to look back at things I have done or words I have said and realize that I have made mistakes, however good-intentioned I might have been at the time. Yet Jesus offered us a way out of these ruminations when he gave his life for us. In that sacrificial act, Jesus took these sins as far from us as the East is from the West. Can you imagine a distance greater than this? Our sins are completely removed from our presence and erased for all time. We can let go of any past mistakes, knowing that God has forgiven us. So what do you need to let go of at this time? Lay down the burden of your past and forgive yourself just as God has forgiven you.
As Far as the East is from the West By Krista Longeway As I reflect upon my past I feel like I am sinking fast My shame and guilt come rushing in Thoughts of my past mistakes begin To overwhelm my thoughts again My many heartbreaks and past pain Are just as clear as yesterday Yet somehow You have found a way To forgive every word and deed Your grace is truly all I need In order to feel whole again You gave your life to ease my pain So that by your side I can stay You cast each of my sins away Far as the east is from the west And now I can have peace and rest For Your compassions never fail And Your love will always prevail As deep as the deepest oceans As high as the distant heavens As wide as the winds that blow free Is Your redeeming love for me
