Some mornings I awake to a world blanketed in mist. This mist rolls in off the sea and winds its way through the trees, obscuring my view so that all I can see is a blur behind the haze. This mist only stays for a short while and then, as the morning sun rises, it silently moves on. Sometimes when I watch the mist I think about the ways that our future is similarly obscured from our view. We get only blurred images of what the future could look like but we can never quite see it clearly. We make choices that influence our future, but we never know for sure where these choices will lead us until the time arrives. What we really have to work with is right now, in this present moment. This mist reminds me to focus on what is right in front of me. For the past is gone and the future is not yet here. So I focus on the present and find joy in each moment as it comes, knowing that this moment is all I truly have.
Morning Mist By Krista Longeway A silent mist settles over the land From over the water and past the sand She drifts gently in from the distant seas Gracefully winding her way through the trees Her shadowy presence filling the air With the wispy tendrils of her long hair Her visit is brief, for she’ll only stay Until morning light ushers her away She reluctantly leaves with a gentle sigh To lose herself ‘tween the waves and the sky
