Sometimes when I visit the seashore I find somewhere to sit, close my eyes, and quietly listen to the song of the sea. The rhythm of the waves as they wash in and out sings a soft lullaby that brings feelings of peace and contentment. As the cool breeze of the sea caresses my face, I listen to the sounds of the gulls overhead mingling with the sound of children happily playing in the sand nearby. This vast soundscape changes with the weather and the seasons, each beautiful in its own way. Yet I think the sounds of the sea on a warm summer evening are my favourite.
The Song of the Sea
By Krista Longeway
The waves ebb and flow, over rocks and sand,
Gently flowing in and out, in and out.
The glow of the sun sinks as dusk draws nigh;
The rhythm of the sea a soft lullaby.
The waves ebb and flow, over rocks and sand,
Gently flowing in and out, in and out.
The cool evening breath of salty sea air
Caresses my face and blows through my hair.
The waves ebb and flow, over rocks and sand,
Gently flowing in and out, in and out.
The cry of the gulls circling up high
Mingles with laughter of children nearby.
The waves ebb and flow, over rocks and sand,
Gently flowing in and out, in and out.
As the water laps gently at the shore
The song of the sea calls forevermore.
