I wrote this poem for my dear mom who passed away a little over a year ago. I read this poem as we scattered her ashes in the place that she loved more than any other – a place she named Shooting Star because of the flowers she found growing nearby. Shooting Star is a little poplar forest where she kept her trailer. She would go there often, in all seasons, to retreat from the world and enjoy the beauties of nature. We have made may cherished memories there as a family and so it seemed fitting that we leave a little piece of her there. I feel her presence there more than any other and I know she is smiling down from heaven with love.
We Hope this Brings you Peace
By Krista Longeway
Now we bring you to this place that you love
Hoping that you’re smiling from up above
Your special place under the poplar trees
Where we’ve made many cherished memories
Times spent laughing and telling stories dear
As we enjoy the warmth of a fire here
And now as we watch each glowing ember
We will all pause here just to remember
Times we’ve visited this place together
We’ve had fun here in all kinds of weather
You loved this place for so many reasons
You saw beauty in each of the seasons
In the setting sun and the early morn
When the spring rains fall and the new buds form
In the summer sun and the bluebird’s call
In the smell of the poplar leaves in fall
In the bright sparkle of a winter’s snow
So at this time we hope you always know
That although we leave you here at Shooting Star
In our hearts and thoughts you are never far
For our love for you will never cease
And so today we hope this brings you peace
