“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?…”
Isiah 43:18-19
The beauty of a spring morning is hard to put into words. Try as I might to capture the sights and sounds and smells of spring, words are not adequate to describe the joy felt during a walk on a spring-time morning. Yet I strive to explain my experiences in an effort to preserve the beauty so that I might visit it again and again. I find that it is during this hopeful time of year that we are inspired to make changes… to begin again with a fresh start. As the spring rains begin to fall and new life is coaxed out of its winter slumber, we too begin to awaken to new possibilities in our lives. Spring is a time like no other and so I try to put into words the very breath of spring…
The Breath of Spring
By Krista Longeway
A gentle wind softly caresses my upturned face
As it dances through the branches of a nearby tree
Cherry blossoms above form a pink canopy of lace
The breath of spring carrying their sweet perfume to me
The trees carry the rhythm of spring’s gentle shower
And new leaves flutter and sigh as the wind passes by
Bees quietly buzzing from flower to flower
As fluffy clouds sail across a deep blue sky
When spring rains begin to fall, on the wind you can smell
The sweet scent of damp earth and of green growing things
Birds chirping above in the trees, their songs will tell
Of the wonder that the breath of springtime brings
Can words explain the joy that’s felt on a springtime morn?
Can words ever be enough to share the feelings it will bring?
Or words describe the beauty of new flowers as they form?
Can words describe the fragrance of the very breath of spring?
