Letting Go

Fall is a time of transition and change for most of us.  As the warmth of summer fades into the crisp cool days of fall, the trees put on a display of beautiful colours and we have an opportunity to start over…

We put away our summer things, send our children back to school, and return to work.  For many of us, this is as much a “new year” as January is.  It is a time when we are reminded that sooner or later, whether we choose it or not, everything must eventually change.  It is also a time that we are reminded that change can be good and that sometimes it is a blessing to have the chance to start over.

I try to let go of old habits and set new goals.  I begin again with a new sense of purpose and plans for making this a better year than the last.  And though it can be hard, I let go of the old year and allow myself to start over.  But I have found that I can only do this if I am willing to loosen my grasp on what is comfortable and familiar in order to reach towards what is new. What do you need to let go of in this season of your life?  Loosen your grasp on the old so that you can embrace the new.  Allow yourself the freedom to start again.

Letting Go
By Krista Longeway

As the sunny summer days
Change to cool days of fall
As the flowers fade away
And above the wild geese call

Change is in the autumn breeze
Turning leaves crimson and gold
Just as trees must shed their leaves
So I too, shed all that’s old

All around me nature knows,
Nothing can remain the same
Now I'm gently letting go
So I can begin again

I never seem to deal with change very well. Going home sometimes feels disappointing to me as there are so many things that look different and you can’t turn back the clock.

I think most people find change hard. We have memories of how things used to be that have special meaning in our lives and it is hard when we see that they are now different. But I am finding that change can also be good. It can take us to places we never imagined we would travel, and brings joy to our lives in surprising ways.
