Where do you place your faith when the storms of life arise? What do you cling to when the cold winds blow and the rain pours down relentlessly? Is it strong? Is it deep? Does it keep you standing, firmly planted in the earth until the storm subsides and the sun shines down again? Or do your fears get the better of you? Do you give in to the storms and allow them to take over? Thrashing you around like a tree in the wind?
To me, these are difficult questions that can only be answered by a belief in a loving God. What else stands steady and unchanging amidst the storms of life? People change, life’s circumstances change, I change… Yet my faith remains, deeply rooted in my belief that there is more to this life than the changing weather of my everyday existence. Maybe you believe as I do, or maybe you place your faith in other things. Is it strong? Is it deep? Does it keep you firmly planted in the earth?
Deep Roots When the storms of life rage on around me. When the cold winds blow, and the rains come down. I stand there, shivering like a tall tree, My branches bend as I’m blown all around And I reach for something to support me When clouds are thick and I can’t see clearly, When rain pours down, drowning all in its wake. I try to cling to those I love dearly, Alone, I don’t have the strength it will take. It is times like these when God draws near me. Faith holds me firm as the storms rage outside. Like strong roots reaching deep into the ground. My strongest anchor and my wisest guide. Only faith can explain the strength I found, For I know that soon the storm will subside. The clouds will move on until there are none. The winds will ease and the sky will be calm. The rain will stop and the storm will be done. And I will be here standing straight and strong, Like a tree’s branches held high in the sun.
