I wrote this poem at a time when I needed to be reminded that I had something uniquely valuable to offer the world. It is not always easy to see our own strengths and gifts. We have been taught to be humble and to downplay the ways that we are good at things. But it is not bragging or pride to recognize the ways that we are skilled. We have all been given strengths and gifts that are different from those of others. Our relationships, opportunities, and experiences have helped us to learn things that are unique and valuable. We should recognize these strengths in ourselves and commit to sharing them with the world.
Do you ever wonder if what you say and do in the world makes a difference? It does. You have not just been given wonderful gifts and talents that are different from anyone else’s. You are a gift. Your presence in the world… your words… your actions… make a huge difference to those around you. Whether directly or indirectly, your life touches the lives of many others every day. So share your gifts with the world. Offer them up to God with praise and gratitude.
The World is Waiting
By Krista Longeway
You are a gift.
In the course of a lifetime,
your words and actions
will touch the lives of others in innumerable ways.
The strengths and talents
hidden within you
have the ability to bring great joy to others.
The wisdom and experience
you have gained over the years
have the potential to light the way for someone else.
Your faith
which you nurture in moments of quiet reflection
has the power to hold someone up during a time of suffering.
The words of your heart
that you long to say
can be the hope that someone else was waiting to hear.
So share…
your talents
your strength
your wisdom
your faith
your words
For you are a gift.
And the world is waiting…
