My parents own a little piece of property where they like to go to escape the busyness of life. It is in the middle of nowhere and covered in a small aspen forest. This summer I had the lovely opportunity to revisit this place where I have made so many happy memories of times spent camping with family. I had almost forgotten how much I have missed sitting by a campfire. I love watching the flames dance and play while the smoke slowly curls into the sky. I love listening to the aspen’s quiet whisper as the breezes blow through the leaves. I love looking at the stars, so brightly shining in the sky. It brings to mind so many happy memories of distant places and campfires that we have enjoyed over the years.
By Campfire’s Glow By Krista Longeway We watch our campfire grow to a soft glow And each pull up a chair Amber flames are dancing, leaping, prancing As though without a care The smoke slowly swirling, softly curling Up into the air As stories of old are quietly told We listen to the trees Long branches gently sway while breezes play Going where they please The green leaves all shiver, whisper, quiver Blowing in the breeze Now the river’s rush is a distant hush Where the tall trees stand The cool water tumbles, gurgles, rumbles Over stones and sand The water is flowing, softly going To a distant land As the flames are fed, I lay back my head And look up at the sky This bright starry night is a lovely sight Beyond the branches high While the soft breezes played, a wish is made As a shooting star goes by Blessed by a quiet grace, this peaceful place Found on no map or chart Gentle beauty abounds in sights and sounds Perfect from the start Each of these memories in distant trees Sings softly to my heart
