Proverbs 30:4-5
“Who but God goes up to heaven and comes back down? Who holds the wind in his fists? Who wraps up the oceans in his cloak? Who has created the whole wide world? What is his name—and his son’s name? Tell me if you know! Every word of God proves true. He is a shield to all who come to him for protection.
Sometimes I sit by the window and watch the rain. The beauty in a springtime shower fills me with appreciation for God’s creation. The sights and sounds and smells of the rain fill my senses and remind me of the strength and majesty of God. Our God, who has the power to direct the winds and send the rains to water the earth and turn everything green and new again. This same God loves us and promises us his protection if only we come to him and ask. From the beginning of creation the earth has known his name, and his son’s name. For Jesus has been with us from the beginning, loving us from above. He is our strength and our shield, protecting us in times of trouble.
Rainy Day
By Krista Longeway
I sit here by the window and listen
To the patter of raindrops in this place
Bringing to my mind the smell of damp earth
And the feeling of rain upon my face
I sit here by the window and I watch
The clouds rolling by on this stormy day
An everchanging grey cloudscape above
Making patterns and then blowing away
I sit here by the window and I hear
A foghorn beyond the sand and the docks
A mournful sound calls from amidst the storm
Warning of crashing waves upon the rocks
I sit here by the window and I ponder
How the Lord directs winds and makes things grow
How he wraps rain and oceans in his cloak
What is his name? Tell me now if you know
I sit here by the window and I can see
In the midst of this storm God is revealed
I know every word of my God proves true
He is my greatest strength and my true shield
I sit here by the window and thank God
For the springtime rain that waters the earth
Turning the flowers and trees green again
Bringing with it the promise of new birth
