God’s Hand is at Work

by | Nov 24, 2021

Is there a piece of wisdom that has changed the way that you look at your life? I wrote this poem a while ago based on a sermon that I once heard.  The image of our lives as a tapestry is one that has stayed with me over the years and has completely changed the way I view my life experiences.  Without this reminder, I find it so easy to get lost in the day-to-day struggles of life and lose sight of the bigger picture.

Do you ever wonder “Why did this happen to me?”  I have asked myself this question many times throughout my life. Sometimes the things that happen in our lives just don’t seem to make sense. But this image of our lives as a tapestry reminds me that each event in our life, whether big or small, is part of a much bigger picture and plan for our life.  That each event in our life happens for a reason… that these events are leading us towards growth and helping us to develop into the person we were meant to be.

The Tapestry
By Krista Longeway

Our lives, a woven tapestry
Though sometimes difficult to see
Each single moment, one thin strand
Woven together by God’s hand

He takes our laughter and our tears
Our highest hopes and deepest fears
Weaves them together day by day
Each moment has a part to play

A rare glimpse of the full picture
Is just enough to make me sure
That all things work towards our good
Although not all are understood

But when I step back I can see
The woven image that is me
I trust the wisdom of God’s plan
There’s purpose in each tiny strand

What a lovely and gentle reminder to focus on our blessings in an era that seems dominated by pessimism.

Thank you so much! My hope is that my poetry will be encouraging to the people who read it and that it helps them to see that, even in the midst of life’s difficult moments, there are beautiful things in our lives.
